5 Steps to Easy Makeup Brush Cleaning

Hello Beauties!

Well, I’ve told you about the makeup brushes that I use on an almost every day basis whenever it comes to makeup application. These brushes are always a dream to use and definitely my favorite ways to apply makeup, but the real magic behind them is cleaning them.

Whenever I think about my makeup brushes, I know that I love applying nicely blended eyeshadow or a sharp contour with clean brushes that have no previous makeup on them.

There are a lot of different ways to cleanse and sanitize your brushes. Some people use a solid cleanser while others use a liquid soap cleanser or even a DIY version.IMG_4606

I cleanse my brushes on a weekly basis. This helps to avoid any makeup buildup on the bristles and it also prevents from any bacteria build up. These brushes, especially the ones used around your eyes, are important to clean because the bristles are porous and have a lot of the oil, debris, and bacteria within them.

Whether or not you use a solid cleanser or a brush cleaner, starting to wash your brushes should always begin the same way.

  1. Wet the bristles with lukewarm water.IMG_4607.JPG

By wetting the bristles of the brush with lukewarm water, you can easily get the cleanser lathered throughout the brush and get into the porous areas od the brush. One thing to make sure of is not to let the ferrule, or the area where the bristles meet the base of the brush- normally covered in metal, touch the water.

If water does touch the ferrule, the glue that connects the bristles to the base of the brush could disintegrate and create a shedding issue for your brushes.

  1. Massage the tips of the bristles in the cleaner.

If you’re using a solid cleanser, simply swipe the bristles along and massage them. If you’re using more of a liquid base or other DIY form of cleanser, just make sure to get enough of the cleanser onto the bristles.

If you don’t have a brush cleaning pad, don’t worry! You can always use the palm of your hand, just as long as you fully get the bristles cleaned.

  1. Rinse the bristles.

Make sure that you rinse the soapy cleanser off of the bristles. If you don’t rinse the bristles properly, then you could risk having remains of the cleanser on the brush which could mess up the application or the blending once your brushes dry.

  1. Squeeze out any excess water.IMG_4611.JPG

This will not only help the drying time for the brush, but it’ll also prevent the water from going from the bristles to the ferrule.

  1. Reshape the brush and lay flat or upside down to dry.

DO NOT. I repeat, DO NOT stand your brushes up to dry when they are still wet. When your brushes are still wet, standing them up risks having the water disintegrate the glue that holds the brush and the bristles together.

Besides that, if you don’t reshape the brush, the bristles could easily start fraying and change how the brush applies makeup, especially when it comes to really compact brushes.

Hopefully these tips help you clean your brushes! If you have any tips or tricks to make cleaning brushes less of a chore, lemme know in the comments down below!
